Located in between Noe Valley and the Castro neighborhoods, this duplex residence required a re-roof because of an eventual water leak that occurred where the deck posts penetrated the roof.  In order to get to the roof, the existing deck had to be removed.  The new design is an improvement in that it does not require the roof to be penetrated like previously.  This required critical structural design and coordination throughout the process.  The resulting deck is expected to allow new roof a longer life than the previous one.  While this was deck and roof repair were started the client also wanted to redesign the interior space of the top floor unit so that it would be more open and current with today’s entertainment style standards.  The existing was very Victorian and compartmentalized.  The resulting design opened the space from the living room, dining and kitchen areas with easy access to the outdoor deck.  In addition, the kitchen was redesigned with more counter and cabinet space and the stacked laundry was relocated out of the kitchen to a newly creating a utility area.
